I Once Was

 

I once was the very breath

you took

You willingly danced with me

in lavender fields

We laid in the meadow

and listened to the sigh of the trees

on the breast of the hills

 

I once was the bird

who flew with you

to the roof of the

world

and plucked the stars

out of the sky

as a gift of

my eternal love

I once was your woman,

your lover, your friend -

and in dreams

you shall find I still am

 

In the dead of night

as you lie in your bed

I watch the place

where you lay your head

 

If you should feel

a gentle kiss

upon your lips

as you sleep

it is only my

thoughts 

holding you
